What is marriage?
Marriage can be said to be a sacred - most often legal - union between two parties of the opposite sex (man and woman). The Advanced Oxford Learner´s Dictionary defines marriage as ´´the legal It went a step further however,to acknowledge that marriage could be In
relationship between a husband and wife´´.
other words, marriage could be successful or not, depending on the foundation and implementation of the institution called marriage. (Psalm 11:3) ´´If the foundations be destroyed, what can the righteous do?´´ From the bible scripture above, one could easily see that God,just as much as secular humans totally agree that the success of anything, including marriage, depends largely on its foundation! A marriage with a faulty foundation, just like a house built on a faulty foundation, would only serve an exciting experiment based on the study of ´ultimate collapse´ or at best a sobering mis-adventure! The product of such an experiment or adventure could never - except by the devine intervention of the almighty Jehovah - be fulfilling or satisfactory. For marriage to be built on a good foundation,it has to be one built around two God-fearing individuals. It is important to be both God-fearing because a situation where the individual principles of marriage between both parties differ would definitely get the marriage stuck in a deadlock. (Amos 3:3) ´´Can two walk together, except they be agreed?´´. The afore quoted bible verse says it all; in a marriage, the couple can never succeed unless they walk together. And to walk together, they have to agree. It is worthy to note here that marriage,as prescribed by God is to last a lifetime once contracted, except on grounds of infidelity. Let us explore some of the reasons a marriage could be said to have a faulty foundation and disagrement.
´´happy or unhappy´´.
