What is barrenness? Barrenness,as defined among other definitions,by the Oxford Advanced Learner´s Dictionary is ´´not
producing anything useful or successful´´. The term barrenness, in the shallowest or primary form is often used to refer to childlessness. It is note-worthy to mention here that barrenness is the failure of a person or a thing to produce the desired (or successful) result from any effort put into doing anything. The direct opposite of barrenness is frutfulness. Appart from humans,inanimate objects like land could also be termed ´´barren´´. Even though about 80 to 90 percent of the manifestation of barrenness are more easily seen in childlessness,it is also and,if I may say so,more powerfully manifested in other areas of human life. People,unfortunately,mostly haven´t realized this. That is why you see a barren man who cannot fend for his barren wife,accusing his wife of being ´´barren´´,unknown to him that he is even more barren than his wife. In other words, barrenness can be applied to so many areas,if not all areas of human life today.
A christian can be termed ´´barren´´ if the word of God proves to not multiply as God has commanded it to be. God said in Isaiah 45:23 ´´I have sworn by myself, the word is gone out of my mouth in righteousness, and shall not return, That unto me every knee shall bow, every tongue shall swear´´. He also said in Revelation 3:8 ´´I know thy works: behold, I have set before thee an open door, and no man can shut it: for thou hast a little strength, and hast kept my word, and hast not denied my name´´. If the word of God touches you and you fail to produce fruit,no one is more barren than you. Stop looking at childless women with pity: you should pity yourself more! If God has done His part and set an open door before you and your infertility for the prosperity of the word of God suddenly turns out to be a great opportunity for the fertility of the devil´s ministry in your life,how else could you expect to be looked upon other than as a barren person? If God has said regarding you that any tongue shall confess and every knee bow to Him for the accomplishment opf His word in your life and the word lands on you and instead, emboldens the devil to stand up-right with pride and boast against God,you are barren! In other words,that person is like a plot of land that recieves a seed but the seed,instead of multiplying the seed into fruits,dies.
The devil could be called anything. The only thing one cannot reliably call him is a ´´fool´´. It is the wish of the devil that we think of barrenness as only having to do with ´´the fruit of the womb´´,therefore he has shifted to other areas of human lives to wreck them with his attacks of barrenness. Even a woman who is not ´´barren´´ but gives birth to a vagabond child who fails to glorify the purpose of God for fruitfulness is barren: barren of ´´Godly fruit´´.
Causes of barrenness:
Barrenness has so many root causes among which we would site a few instances.
***Curses from God and man: In parts of the bible,especially in Exodus,God listed some reasons for a man to be deemed cursed. In Ps. 1:1 He also stated clearly what it takes for a man to be blessed or cursed. We see how Michal,the wife of David became barren because she despised David´s service to the Lord in 2 Samuel 6:14-23.
***Ancestral pattern: On the first day of this fast,I talked about ´´evil family pattern/inheritance´´. This could also come in form of barrenness. In the bible,it is a fact that in the generations of Abraham starting from him,any wfe they truelly loved was always had delayed childbirth. Sarah was barreb till old age; Rebekah and Rachel were also recorded to have had delayed births. It was an evil family pattern. Though it was not recorded that theirs in the bible was as a result of a curse,it mostly happens because of a curse somewhere,mostly a hidden one.
Manifestations of barrenness:
Barrenness, like I have earlier tried to explain,could manifest in so many ways and in so many areas of our lives,appart from the most known form of barrennes which is childlessness.
Barrenness can be in a land. Such a land,as in a country would always produce evil - evil leaders,evil inhabitants,evil children etc. A church can be barren,being rendered unable to impart the children of God possitively with the fertile word of God. A man or woman can be barren,not having children at all or having vagabond children. A vehicle can be barren,always having accidents rather than accomplishing successful journeys. A business can be barren becoming a bottomless pit of financial drain insted of raking in profit. A marriage can be barren,devoid of,appart from children,all other Godly provisions for marriage-happiness,love etc.
Also coming closer to our personal ´´selves´´ -which is what really concerns us today in this fast- parts of the God-endowed human body could be made barren by the devil! These comprise of: the hand,the head,legs,tongue,heart,eyes,ears etc.
If these parts of our bodies cannot serve the purpose which God has created them for,they are barren. For instance,the hand could be cursed or bewitched and it would fail to prosper. That means even if an already prosperous business is handed over to such a person,it dies almost imediately be cause a barren hand has touched it! A brother once dreamt that God delivered his hands. In the dream,his fingers were looking and breaking like boiled fish.Then he saw worms coming out of the fish-like fingers. He drew out the worms that had almost endless lenghts and it was a big heap of worms on the floor! That was deliverance.Those were worms planted by the enemy into his hands to decay it spiritually. Since that day,all that he was failing in,he started to prosper at very little attempts.
If your legs are always leading you to sorrow or failure,it is barren. Some peoples´ legs direct them always to where the ´´party´´ that God organised for them had already been feasted upon by another. Such people often hear when they seek jobs:´´O sorry about it. You should have come just a few minutes ago´´. That is bad news for a child of God because it is written:
**Deuteronomy 28:44 ´´He shall lend to thee, and thou shalt not lend to him: he shall be the head, and thou shalt be the tail´´.
**Revelation 3:8 ´´I know thy works: behold, I have set before thee an open door, and no man can shut it: for thou hast a little strength, and hast kept my word, and hast not denied my name´´.
**Malachi 3:11´´And I will rebuke the devourer for your sakes, and he shall not destroy the fruits of your ground; neither shall your vine cast her fruit before the time in the field, saith the LORD of hosts´´.
The devil has never succeeded with the children of God. Look at Job; after the devil destroyed all that he had,because of his faith in God,God restored him even more than before.
Also,one thing to note: almost all the barren women in the bible ended up givin birth to a child who was worth more than a thousand other children - Sarah,Rebekah,Rachel,Samson's Mother,Hannah,Elizabeth,Joh the Baptist´s mother..the list is endless. If the devil has concluded that he has made you barren in any area of your life,you are coming out with a great child in Jesus´ name. It is so because God has declared in Isaiah 45:23 ´´I have sworn by myself, the word is gone out of my mouth in righteousness, and shall not return, That unto me every knee shall bow, every tongue shall swear´´. He has pronounced all these good news and more regarding your life and marriage and no one can stop it! **Deuteronomy 7:14 ´´Thou shalt be blessed above all people: there shall not be male or female barren among you, or among your cattle´´.
**Exodus 23:26 ´´There shall nothing cast their young, nor be barren, in thy land: the number of thy days I will fulfil´´.
Apply these prayers to any area of your life that you think may be experiencing barrenness and may requires it, eg, hands,legs,ears,eyes etc
